The Province of Sulcis, which is the Province of Carbonia and Iglesias, with the low west coast
The Province Sulcis or Carbonia-Iglesias Province (name in Sardinian language Provìntzia de Carbon-Igrèsias) Was established in 2004 with areas that previously belonged to the Province of Cagliari. It has an area of 1.740 square kilometers and includes 24 municipalities for a population of 138,993 inhabitants in 2000. The status of capital of the Province is attached to the city of Carbonia, home of the President and the Provincial Government, and Iglesias, seat of the Provincial Council. The Province includes the region of Sulcis-Iglesias.
In the Provincial Elections of 2010 was elected President of the Province, in the first round, Salvatore Cherchi, of the Democratic Party, with the support of the center-left parties.
